WHATS A GOOD TEST FOR THE CLUTCH? OTHER THAN LOOKING AT THE PLATE AND PAD. PEDAL TRAVEL, ENGAGEMENT AND SUCH?

To check for slippage, drive uphill in a higher gear than needed (i.e., 20 mph in third) so that the rpms are on the low side. Mash the gas. If the tach moves without a corresponding change in speed, your clutch is slipping.
Chattering can be felt on engagement, mostly starting from a stop, and can be caused by other factors, such as bad motor mounts.
Failure of the clutch to release usually shows up as difficulty shifting and at a stop, difficulty engaging ANY gear. If you suspect this, at a stop, sit with the car in 1st gear and the clutch on the floor and release all of your brakes, if the clutch is grabbing enough, the car will move. I have heard that sometimes the clutch will stick to the flywheel due to an oily gum build up from a seeping or leaking rear main seal. I have been told that you can test if this is the cause of your problem by slipping your clutch for a prolonged period to burn off this buildup. Beware that this will smell and cause wear to the components.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T NEED REPLACING...IT SEEMS OK BUT FIELD TESTS CAN GIVE YOU A HEADS UP.
