Stuck CD

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Stuck CD

Post by kennedy64 »

Hi All,
Bought a 2000 S80 T6 in March. Like the car (so far), but about 6 weeks ago, I got an error message after selecting "CD Player". That's it, just "CD Error". It won't let me eject any disc's either. I loaded 4 CD-R disc's and everything was fine... until I ejected a disc and loaded another one. Then the error. Any idea's how to get my CD player to work again (without going to the dealer and spending $$$? I'm trying to save money for all of the OTHER problem's I, apparently, can look forward to.)
Thanks in advance!
Bob in Maine

Welcome to MVS,

I moved your post to the S80 forum where you will likely get a quicker answer.

You have my sympathy...

...And a little advice... 8)

This unfortunately seems to be a common problem. There are a number of posts in the forum that mention this.
I've found that the easiest way to find these is to use the search function at the top of the page, and in this case, I entered "CD player" and selected the S80 forum, then hit the search button at the bottom.

If you're lucky, using a thin card in the slot and carefully playing around, you might get something to move into the right place and get your CDs back.
(On the flip side, doing this CAN break something, and now you're probably looking at a replacement.)

I just had the "pleasure" of trying this, and did manage to get three of the four CDs out. Unfortunately, the fourth (and fifth) CD was from our local library, so I ended up removing the radio and opening it up to get out the little gems...
...and, yes, it is only a four cd changer, I'll not go into the details on that one.

If you decide to remove the radio, it is fairly easy, though a bit tedious. There's some excellent advice in other posts on the forum.
Word of Warning: Removing the CD player can trip an alarm for the airbag system (welcome to the world of Volvo!) so follow the advice in the posts closely. I was able to remove mine without causing the alarm, but I had to plug it back in to re-index the changer to get to the lost CDs, and brought up the alarm. This apparently can only be reset from the $dealer$.

Here's a few links to pursue:

(the last link includes detailed directions from Billofdurham on the removal, which I used to get mine out (Thanks, Bill!)

Hope this helps.
