Dash light pain --- edit: THEY WORK NOW!!

Post by VolvoFreak »

Okay, I've got to ask: why in god's name did Volvo decide to solder the bulbs into the switches for the dash on a '93 850glt? I need to replace 7 of them and only 2 are socketed (headlamp switch), the rest are all soldered. Why why why!?

/end rant

Anyone know where I can pick these bulbs up? I really don't want to buy the entire switch just so they light up..

In case anyone is interested, I picked up a few 12v bulbs from Radio Shack this evening in an attempt to fix some of the lights. After a bit of soldering, they work perfectly - the brightness is dead on with the rest of the dash and they fit real nice. I bought the last 3 that they had, so I'll have to go to another store tomarrow :\

Yea, they actually work real nice. The cool thing is that the little leads are a solid, stiff wire which will need to be bent to work correctly which actually helps to hold the bulb in place when I'm soldering it to the power rails.

If you, or anyone else, would like, I'd be happy to post a "how to" with pics. It's a very simple and inexpensive ($1.50 per bulb) fix which only takes 10 minutes or so. The hardest part is getting the switch apart
