Heavy Clutch 440 1995

hey everyone I have a 440 volvo 1995 2.0l 5spd manual. and the clutch is realy heaving and not smooth (gears are smooth just not clutch), friend of mine said to spray the clutch cable with wd 40 or lubricator.... will this help and if it will can someone tell me exactly how to do it as i have never owned a manual car before and have NO IDEAD where to look for the cable.

To lubricate the clutch cable is a near impossible task whilst it is still on the car. If you are going to do the job properly the cable has to come off. It would be a stop gap repair at best as it will soon dry out again.

However, it may not be the cable at fault. The attached VADIS parts list shows the full clutch parts but you need to find #17, the fork, which will be on the gearbox/clutch housing. This is often neglected on routine servicing and will benefit from a good dose of WD40 on the pivot then regular maintenance using machine oil. Also check the bushes on the top of the clutch pedal which also need occasional applications of machine oil.

If this doesn't cure the problem you are probably looking at worn parts in the clutch mechanism at worst or a new clutch cable at best.
