It seems as if this last snow storm got us all! I have a 2001 s40 and my light just came on as well. I read somewhere that it might self correct after 100 miles if it has to do with your gas cap or the likes. Still waiting though.

You guys need to pull your codes to find out what's tripping the light.

On 850s and 70s you need an OBDII tool, and I think it's the same for 40s.

Dealer/independent mech./auto parts all might do this for free. Call them. Or you can buy the tool. Post back to this thread if you need more info.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link

Hey guys I am not sure what I did but I managed to get the check engine light to go off. I made sure that I was the one filling the gas tank so when I was done I could securely tighten the cap. It took about two full tanks and over 500 miles of driving but the light did go off. I am assuming it reset itself. For those of you who are not so lucky advanced auto parts stores had the obdII code readers on sale for $80. These will reset the light for you. Try the gas first. Good luck!
