Surprising oil leak on 850 T5

Post by mailee »

I had an oil leak since buying my T5 second hand a few months ago and assumed as did everyone else that it was from the turbo oil return line. After cleaning all the gunk from under the car I found to my surprise that I had a hole in the sump! It appears that it had been chafed into the offside rear corner of the sump by a plastic pipe! I have no idea what the pipe is but it runs from the rear of the car around the subframe and into a cannister under the front nearside wing. It had become unclipped from the subframe where it passes the sump corner and rubbed a neat ridge and hole in the sump! I managed to glue up the hole with some epoxy liquid metal and hope this solves the problem, I have my fingers crosssed. Just thought this was worth a mention as I had not heard of this one before and maybe it may bo of help to some of the other members of this site.

That hose you mentioned is an evap canister hose. It's an emissions control device. I've never heard of it doing that before though.

Yep, White 850 turbo, you are dead right, I just looked it up in the manual and it is the evaporator line. I have to admit I thought it was an unusual thing when I saw it and thought at first it was oil leaking from the pipe (Not knowing what it was) I was really amazed that a plastic pipe would cut through the alloy of the sump too!.
