1997 850 Wagon Turbo CEL Flashing Engine Stumbling

Hi I'm new to this board and need some advice. I have a 1997 850 Turbo Wagon with 148,000 miles.If I accelerate slowly I have no problems. When I accelerate hard the engine seems to stumble lose power, run rough and seem like it's hunting for gears. While this is occuring the CEL starts flashing. if I let up on the pedal the CEL stops flashing after about 5 seconds. After startup the CEL stays on solid all the time. Where can i go to have the codes read? Anyone know what the problem is?

Welcome to MVS,

The flashing CEL indicates a misfire is occurring. You should be able to get the codes read at nearly any chain auto parts store. Be sure to get the actual P code numbers rather than relying on the store's interpretation of what they mean. Once you have the numbers post them back and we can work from there.

Ozark, thanks for the reply. So my problem is not a transmission problem? I am very relieved about that.
I'll get the codes read today and report back.

When the transmission gets mad about something the up arrow light will start flashing. If you have any transmission codes that have posted they will be read along with the engine codes.
