This sounds dangerous. Can you provide the year and model of the car? My guess is that you have a mechanical tensioner on a 5254T but with the year and model I can jump into VADIS to confirm that.

My first impression is that it's lost tension. You can check the tensioner by removing the front cover. I believe it's only one bolt thru the middle of the plastic cover. But you need to remove the serpentine belt to get access.

+1, the tensioner is not holding tension anymore. The pull of the crank on the motor is what is causing the slack to come out. You can take the cover off without removing the serpentine belt.Brucebo wrote:My first impression is that it's lost tension. You can check the tensioner by removing the front cover. This may sound like a silly question but did you "pull the pin"?smokingslash wrote:thanks guys,

so today i removed the tensioner and had to use a vice to close it to put the pin back in it so i am not sure if this is the problem.
i was also able to slide the belt off the tensioner wheel,by the way the belt goes on i think any way i turn the belt it should be tight.
any one have a new tensioner go bad??
thanks brian
