Reassembly time......Trying to confirm Top Dead Center?

Mark on crank shaft housing lined up with crank shaft mark as shown?

2nd pic is what piston configuration is in above pic 1 configuration......

You look golden to me. You might be able to verify everything if there is a very small notch on the back of the crank pulley but my son's '96 had a similar notch on the harmonic balancer at #1 TDC.

Tailor & Ozark Lee......Thanks for the replys....

Ozark......took the best shots I could - w/ my old eyes w/o the camera I can hardly see the tooth notches u mentioned but I believe this is where I need to be. Head w/ exhaust manifold is next.....soon it will be camshaft alignment...my next challenge.

Dudes & Dudettes! Happy Labor Day to all and your families......

A little labor today, homemade cam retension device fabbed from 'all the stuff you can't just throw away'.

1) does my cam alignment look correct?

Tomorrow the cams go on, next will be the timing belt (next challenge - don't the camshaft gear ends need some type of alignment??)

I recall that the picture in the Haynes showed the cam lobes in a different position but I am at the cabin and I don't have it available. The acid test is to:

a - Make sure the proper cam is in the proper position.

and

b - Make sure that the offset on the slot on the rear of the cam is on the proper side of the mating surface between the upper and lower portions of the cam tower. One will be above the mating surface and one will be below.

That is a very nice job on the tools!

Intake manifold install time.

Is the intake manifold gasket installed dry, with out any sealer?

The sensor you're showing in these pictures is called the PTC (I think). It is part of the PCV system.

This thing is the cause of much consternation for turbo owners. When it's blocked you'll get super high crankcase pressure, and eventually you'll start blowing oil out around your engine seals (cams, crank, front and rear). Big-time headache.

You can clean it by reaming it out CAREFULLY with pipe cleaners and/or a small screwdriver.

ALL ports must be open to each other.

If this thing is blocked up the rest of your PCV system is probably toast too. Take the opportunity to replace it ALL (lines, oil separator, clamps, etc) while you have things apart. You have to take the intake off to do it anyway and you've already got yours off...
