brake dust shields to keep wheels clean

Post by w5bvb »

Does anyone use these? Do they have any adverse effects
on the brakes in normal driving use?

The front wheels on both of my Volvo's get filthy and aren't that easily cleaned.

thanks, Phil

I have something better for you. Pick up a pair of break pads from buybrakes.com. They are rotex pads and BMW guys use them because they do not dusk. They are just as good if not better then OE pads. Here is a link.

I know one lexus owner who seriously cooked the brakes on the way back from lake tahoe. The brakes were glowing red hot and the plastic dust shield between the wheel and brake disk melted and caught fire on the hot rotor once the car was stopped. The brake pedal went to the floor and he was only able to stop the car after using his ebrake. After having the car towed back to the bay are the front rotors, pads had to be replaced the calipers rebult.
Ambitious but rubbish

Thanks for the link on the Rotex pads. Though its only been
about 10K miles since a dealer 4-wheel brake job, the price of the pads compared to the cost of the shields make it kind of
an attractive alternative. Phil
