Today I noticed with dismay two horrible gashes of varying width close together, about 4-5 inches long on the alloy finish on my front left wheel. I thought the car wash garage did this today because there were repeated problems with their wheel track mechanism and vehicles kept popping out and mounting the rack, but they looked at it and said it looks more like I hit a rock or some such thing (I'm not sure I believe them but I can't prove anything at this stage).
The gashes are very irregular in shape but quite deep, between the center of the wheel and the outer "stars" of this VOLVO style of wheel. The damage is highly visible when you look at the car. The wheel rim also has three very small, deep dents in it.
I am incredibly upset because the wheels on this Volvo looked gorgeous until recently and I could clean and shine them like a star. I feel like a beautiful thing has been scarred now.
Is there any way to repair this stuff either at the dealership or with my own amateur skills and some stuff from a local auto store, or am I stuck with buying a new wheel? Appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Alloy wheels can be repaired if the damage isn't too bad.
In the UK we have specialist shops that do these repairs at a lot less than the cost of a new wheel. We can also buy kits for DIY repairs. This is one that I have used on several cars - not all mine: Alloy Wheel Repair Kit. You must be able to get similar in the US or have shops that would do it. Steer clear of the dealer as they will usually try to sell you a new wheel.
Bill.
