850 1995 BATTERY LIGHT

battery light was on dim so looked under hood wire on alternater was off nut fell off thanks to mech over looking when put on light went off but wire got warm and sparked is this right??? thanks

You should have battery cables(+ & -)disconnected before reconnecting that wire!I'm assuming that you're talking about big red wire from the alternator.

If that loosen wire,in any case,touch chasis or any metal part in that area,complete installation in your car can be ruined in a split of a second.Sometimes it can set a car on fire.

thanks i will disconect + & - but should wire connector get hot or warm?? I haven't done this yet thanks

It shouldn't be hot.It may be that your cable have high resistance.
Are your battery cables dirty or coroded?
If they are,clean them up with alcool and teeth brush,and clean all grounds also if they are coroded.You can also use wd-40 for cleaning.

Could be that your cable is being hot because positive and negative cables are coroded and they are making high resistance and because of that they are hot.
