i posted this on another thread but figured it wouldn't be read......
Newbie here.......after reading other threads I went and pulled the MAF. To the naked eye it seems clean but I don't have the cleaner around to test this. My question is, even though it LOOKS clean, could it still be dirty??? Starting the car I have to keep my foot on the gas for a while or it stalls. After about ten minutes of driving it idles normally again. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Coops
P.S. Shop told me its was the MAF asnd the TPS
MAF Problems.....stutters and stalls please help

For what it is worth I posted an answer in the other thread. Can you elaborate a bit more on the conditions. Warm engine, cold engine, or both? Any other indicators such as the CEL flashing? Does your temperature gauge seem to be normal?
Did the shop clear the codes and, if so, did both of them come back?

A flaky ECT sensor has been known to cause the stalling problems but that usually happens the other way around - with a warm engine.
What codes are you specifically getting. You can read the OBD-I codes with the under hood diagnostic boxes and they are actually a bit more precise. Pull the codes from port A-2 and post them back. If you have not used the OBD-I system here is how it works.

Check and clean the connector to the MAF. 1-2-1 is a MAF signal missing or faulty signal which is not the same as the range limit signal. If that doesn't fix it then you are likely looking at a new MAF sensor. Is this car a turbo or a N/A version?

Spraying it with MAF cleaner or contact cleaner can't hurt anything so go for it. In your case I think I would buy something like CRC contact cleaner from the auto parts store and spray both the MAF sensor and its contacts at the connector.

Okay.....I went and got the cleaner and did as instructed. Unfortunately it still stalls out or idles way to low, not quit as bad but it's there. The weird thing is that I checked the A2 port after cleaning the the 121 code was gone. My EL is still on though. is there a next step in the diagnosis ?
