Everyone says i will have to replace the heads... If the T-belt broke and I replace the heads will that correct the problem?
Pulling the head is a lot like opening a wrapped Christmas present - You never know what you will find until it is opened up.

If the kid was blowing up I-29 at 80 MPH like everyone else when the belt let go then some of the valves are toast for sure. The real question is what kind of shape the pistons are in. If they are broken or beaten to death then it is for sure new (used) motor time.

Snap some pictures and post them back along the way so we can live vicariously with you as you get it going.

I wish I had a good cheap source for new seat skins but I don't. A & A Royal at 39th and SW Trafficway in KC is a great trim shop and they aren't obscene in pricing. That said, they aren't cheap. Very nice people, I think it is a father - daughter operation in the showroom.

Thanks O'lee for the tips...

I will start posting pic's along the way...

I have a friend who's in desperate need of cash and is a fair mechanic... so he is going to help...

I am hoping that the previous owner was in Mcdonalds drive through when it let go and died...
I will start checking into seat skins will let you know if i find anything... but i'm kind of putting the cart in front of the horse there... i need to get it running before i do the seats...

thanks again

You could try calling the kid back and asking him how fast he was going when the timing belt broke. That should atleast give you an idea of what your "christmas present" is going to be this year. :D lol

Good looking fleet there. This link might be somewhat interesting to you. It has a few pictures of the engine w/ the head off as well as a short discussion about putting it all together. -> https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 20&start=0
I'm still looking for something more useful for you though...
P.S. Idk how what your plans are for your 850 NA but here are 2 links on how to fix the odometer. -> https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/2005/0 ... ix-how-to/

True precisionfit.com doesn't list volvo... but just a search of the internet for "custom seat covers" gives you lots of different options.. Some don't look to bad... i was just looking for first hand experience with fit and look.. I want it to look good and function properly with air bags that are in the seat...

Polskamafia, my plan for the 850 NA... well its probably going to be donating its vital parts to the 850 Turbo... I put a battery on the Turbo and the starter spins but thats it.. I am planning to use that head or the complete engine (rebuilt) to get the Turbo running...

For those of you who have had both...
850 NA 5-speed manual.. or
850 Turbo automatic...

Can I ask for a vote? what would you chose?
I would value your opinion. I have never owned a Turbo before.. Your opinions might help me make my decision.

Thanks

I have a similar pairing in my driveway but I need both of them as daily drivers. The day will come for me when the manual transmission in the '94 and the turbo in the Platinum get joined. I just need for the '94 (227k and counting) to crap out and get a new car before that happens. Not that I am looking forward to retiring the '94 since it has been the best car I have ever owned but somewhere around a million miles or so it might be time to retire it.

As far as motor parts go the valves on the turbo are different than the N/A version so don't try to mix and match the heads.

Put your emphasis into the turbo, they are light years apart in terms of performance and fun.

I agree with Lee. Although I have never driven a turbo I do have an N/A. I love it to death but I know just how amazing the turbo 850 are. If you have to sacrifice the N/A to bring the turbo back to life do it.
