2000 V70 xc 110,000 mi. Timing belt at 103,000 (replaced)
Alternator has apparently failed, no charging voltage at battery terminals.
Fuses O.K. The warning lamp lights when the ignition is turned on but did not warn me of failure.
Can anyone tell me the proper procedure of changing the alternator. And does the warning lamp have a fuse (location) and does it need to be working to charge the battery. Anywhere I can get a wiring diagram?

How's the voltage AT the alternator at idle?

I'm scratching my head kinda like BEJinFBK is. If the alternator fails the light should come on.

I had a repair shop to confirm the alternator was not charging.
They said that I was not sending a signal through the warning lamp wire.
Their price to fix was unrealistic.
The tensioner is in tight quarters but probably accessible. Looks about 14mm. I assume that loosens counter clockwise.
I will double check at the alternator.
