Wow thanks Lee... I have been trying to figure out the best options...
You saved me from heading down a wrong road..
Questions: Why are the valves different?
Can the engine from the NA be used with the turbo?
In other words, if the engine in the turbo is shot, can i do an engine swap and put the turbo on the NA engine?
I have been looking some things over and i know that most of the things i can see are the same, but i don't know about the internals.
Thanks
Matt

The valves on the turbo are sodium filled to deal with the heat.
Unfortunately you can't use the 2.4 with the turbo, the compression ratio is too high.

compression on the N/A is actually astronomical for a modern car...approaching 11:1 You put a turbo on that and the head might actually break the stratosphere. Although for one brief shining moment it would be a hell of a ride

humm... that ride sounds tempting.... lol
is the head/valves the only difference...
What i am trying to determine is what i can swap or change from one to the other.. If the head is what needs replaced and I can't use the one from the NA then i am guessing i will have to get it rebuilt or by a new head.. ouch$$....
I put a battery on the Turbo and just for kicks tried to turn it over.. the starter spun.. but that was it... I am going to start tearing into it this weekend if I have time...
I really want to get the Turbo running.. I just want to know what I can use from the NA to make that happen..

I'm not real sure why you want to sacrifice one for the other. There really isn't much that is directly compatible. The way I would go about this one is to yank the head on the turbo and assess the damage.
If the pistons are OK you can buy new valves to replace the ones that are bent up. Intake valves are around $15.00 each and exhaust valves are around $23.00 each, not all of them will be trashed. The head gasket kit is around $120.00 and new head bolts run around $3.00 each. Valve lapping compound will add another $20.00.
If the pistons are damaged then you are looking at a new (used) motor. You can have on on your doorstep for around $600.00 from Toms or Erie Vovo and they will come with a warranty.
I wish I knew of a good salvage yard in our area but I don't.

Lee,
The more i consider my options the more I was coming to the same conclusion... I think I am going to work with the turbo and get it going...
Once it's going I will evaluate the problems and will keep one and sell the other.. I don't really need two..
The ABS and Tracs light is coming on now every so often... I already found the Thread showing the fix by cracking open the ABS module..
Thanks for the advice and I agree.. that is the road I am going to try..
