Re: bizarre power and engine failure 2004 XC90
The CEM in this XC90 is also used in all 01-04 S60/V70 and the 99-04 S80's. It is the culprit for many unexplainable, intermittent and difficult to diagnose electrical issues. We stock this item and sell more than a few. Part number is 30657629. Compare prices locally and then check on our page, you won't find it for a better price. Factory Blue Box with full warranty, check our banner on the top of this page.

My XC90 show all of the above symptoms on our first road trip with our new XC90(2004 with 175,000k). To make a long story short, i work at a Volvo dealership, and what we determined was that the sunroof drains had plugged up and was letting water drain down the interior portion of the "A" pillar of the roof frame. When that would happen, it would leak right onto the CEM, and during hot weather it would short out. We fixed the drain issues, replaced the CEM and did a complete vehicle software upgrade. We have not had a problem since, but the weather has not been hot for quite sometime, so i guess i will find out once summer gets here next year.
