Weatherstripping
I need to replace some of the weatherstripping on my '93 850glt. Anyone know of a good place to buy some? I need to replace the sunroof weatherstripping as it leaks at the car wash and would like to replace the windows channel for both front doors because of wind noise. Thanks

If you find something, please post the response. I mangled the rubber seal at the bottom of the window on the door with an ice scraper this winter.
How bad is your sunroof leak? Mine leaked and I used some rubber sealant - much cheaper than a new gasket.

It hasn't leaked when it rains, but when I go through a high-pressure wash, it soaks my left shoulder if I'm not paying attention. I think for how much a gasket will cost, I might as well go that route. I can't imagine it being much more than 30 bucks or so.Paul93-850 wrote:How bad is your sunroof leak? Jot: I did try JC Whitney - was the 1st place I looked. Couldn't find what I needed. I think this is going to be a trip to the dealer.

Okay, I'm at a loss here. Please someone help me, the leak is getting worse and worse! I contacted a dealer and they want $140 for the piece of weatherstripping that goes around the sunroof. That's absolutely crazy. Any clue if I can get this anywhere else? I have a part number: 1390349 (Sealing Strip)

Go to www.shopautobahnparts.com and search for the part by part number. They have it for $56, much better than $150. You may also want to give FCP Groton a call. They can get any Volvo parts and usually for a pretty good price.

I've been doing a bunch of reading on this and please correct me if I'm wrong, but other places are saying that the "seal strip" isn't really ment to keep the water out, but there are drain tubes in the sunroof frame that run from the sunroof down the A-Pillars to just in front of the front doors. Can these get detached? Reason I ask is that the water pools in only 2 places, right where the tubes attach to the sunroof frame. Seems like such a coincidence to have it leak only in those 2 spots..
Over and above that, $56 is MUCH better than what the dealer wanted. I nearly dropped the phone when they told me the cost of the stupid thing!
Tina: That was the 1st thing I thought of, but you have to understand something about where I live. Yes, there are plenty of pull-it yards, but very, very few have ANY Volvo of any model or year. When I needed to replace the sunroof motor, I called every auto yard within a 50-mile radius and not only did no one have the motor, no one had any 850's of any year in their yards. When I had my 240, those were a bit easier to find, but still few and far between.

i dunno if you ever got this fixed. but i am having the same problem sorta. my sunroof leaks a little bit. When there is a real big rain usually it leaks on my passenger seat or in the passenger seat tray on the side. And i got it to a point were it didn't leak during rain. but when i took my first left turn it leaks in the car and wets the same spot. But today i noticed the sunroof weather strip was pop'ed up in one position. So i put the sunroof in tilt and pulled back the weather strip of the little piece of metal that holds it on. And the whole metal was rusted, and water was getting by. But the way it was built looks as if it would leak to the sides and then just drain through the holes. But it doesn't. So after realized there's only 4 bolts to remove the glass, I am gonna change it. But have same problem as you, i dunno were to find it!! And as for the holes. your should get a high pressure nozzle hook it to a air hose and blow them out and if the air is going through and not getting pressurized then its clear.. Then poor a cup of water very slow and see if it leaks out underneath the car, if it doesn't then yes one of the hoses might be disconnected under the a pillar. But I am gonna look at the sites the previous guy had posted. anyways and when you put it back there's slots these little bars slide and lock into, you may not be catching them in the slot. Anyways wanted to bring this thread back to life as I am sure this is getting to be a problem now with the age increasing in our Volvo 850's so if you see this what did you end up doing to fix you situation?
I have the same problem in the same area. What I found was water was getting in where the seal butts together. I took the glass out and pulled off the seal and a lot of water came out. The water was running in the edge that the metal lip slides into and dripping out on the passenger side.
I cleaned the metal edge and painted. I used a sealant on the edge and pressed the weatherstripping back on making sure the butt ends were sealed. No more leaks.
