weatherstripping issues

Post by ptV70 »

On my 2005 V70, and my wife's 2007 S60, the weatherstripping around the windshields is deteriorating badly. I have begun looking at other Volvos -- older and newer -- and don't see this problem. Was there a weakness in the mid-00's weatherstripping material or design? I see that newer Volvos don't have any windshield weather stripping at all.

Yes Volvo used poor quality rubber that recycles itself prematurely. Could be temperature related, assume you live in a hot climate?

I'm not aware if some years got a better rubber quality that others... I've seen cars with the rubber part completely chewed up like the squirrels got mad at it, while on other cars still perfect shape. One thing I do pay attention on my car is scrapping the ice/snow off frozen windshields, the scrapper can easily damage these trims. These strips are not cheap and replacing them also needs new securing clips and there's several types along each strip

Thanks for the responses. Think I'll go to the local Volvo dealer and say, "I'm thinking of buying a new Volvo, but what assurance do I have that the weatherstripping will last?" See what they say ...
