3M sell a high stick strength double sided trim adhesive tape. Works well. I plan to try heat is slightly next time I use it to see if it increases the sticky in the glue.

I removed the XC banner on my old 98' XC. It's good to warm it up with a hair drier and then you can slowly pull it off. You will need patience though, a lot of it. At this point they are hard and brittle, and once you start pulling they start tearing. Once you have everything off you can remove residue with GooGone. Finally a good polish and it should look good.FireFox31 wrote: ↑02 Aug 2023, 20:24 Thanks for the input. Removing the tailgate banner sounds easy. Replacing the fender/door trim sounds harder since I'd have to find an adhesive which will actually stick. I'll save XC70 parts as a last resort.
Weak effort on that T5 to use the wrong front end parts. Makes me wonder if it was in an accident and actually needed all those parts. I want them for Geronimo because, no surprise, what's there is rusted and spray painted.

Thanks. Question about adhesive removal: Is it safe to use acetone on the exterior body to remove adhesive residue? I broke my quarter panel window and had plastic taped on it for... a long time. I tried acetone on it, it removed the adhesive, but left a tiny bit of dullness where the tape was. I couldn't tell if it damaged the paint at all.
Rubbing alcohol on the paint caused white streaks to appear. I got nervous that I was hurting the clear coat so stopped using that immediately.
Back to the tailgate: The only problem with removing the "Cross Country" banner is that I'd also remove the "XC AWD", leaving the "V70" slightly too far to the left. Another reason why getting an XC tailgate is a last resort.

I'd move them over. There are a ton of good adhesive products in the adhesive section of your local auto parts store.
I might take a buffer to the gate first and polish the oxidation off the clear coat. Don't apply any sort of wax or anything before putting the adhesive on

Try a paint rubbing compound and see if that helps remove the misty clear coat. Hopefully it is just on the surface.
