Waiting on an 096 (H6) Bosch battery being delivered today for the V70. The P2 V70 has space to accommodate an 019 (H8) and if I had the dirty D5 diesel engine then the 019 (H8) would be a must but it's overkill for the 2.5T.

The V70 has had a new battery in the past year before I purchased the car, but it's too small being an 027 (H5 Group 47) and I wouldn't want to rely on it in the middle of winter...

I run a larger battery than the H5 in my P80. However, most regular owners here run the standard size H5 battery as supplied by Volvo here. Now we can get weather down to -40C here and they still start. The only difference is many cars sold here had block heaters for those cold starts. You can also buy stick on oil pan heaters and battery heater/blankets to prevent batteries freezing.

Neil. 027 (H5) should be fine for the P80 cars as they aren't overloaded with electronics and the only reason I opted for a larger battery was that at the time it was only a couple of pounds/dollars extra to purchase.

The P2 has a lot more electronics and as far as I know the 027 (H5) was never a factory fit as it would never have coped with the needs of the car. When I purchased my P2 there was no battery clamp to fix the battery to the floor (the top battery strap was fitted which would allow the battery to move around) and when I fitted a clamp it was the first time one had been fitted in the H5 location hole.

Bosch 096 (H6) arrived this afternoon and before changing the battery I decided to connect 12v to the jump points under the bonnet/hood to preserve all the settings. Battery clamp is now fitted back in the original factory position and as I'm not using the car today I put the CTEK on to top the battery up before venturing out

Totally agree on the P2 as per your recommendations. More electronics especially with Haldex and the likes in the later AWD models. However, sedan/saloon FWD I believe are not that much different than P80's. Either way, go with what works. In my P80 it was the same brand that supplies Volvo in Canada (Interstate) sells batteries from local parts stores or their local outlet for the same less than Volvo for the next size up. Also their warranty is also better than Volvo

Go big or go home!
