Likely hood of bent valves with broken timing belt

My 2005 xc90 has the same 5 cylinder interference engine as all the p80s. My timing belt broke while sitting in traffic. I did not know this at the time and spent several weeks troubleshooting the problem. In that time I turned the engine over like 1000 times. When I discovered the broken timing belt, I tore the engine apart and sent off the head for cleaning and valve replacement. The shop told me all the valves were straight. I couldn't believe it.

Throw a belt on and try turning it.
