'99 S70 - ETM Replacement Troubleshooting

Check voltages and fuses to the ETM first. Inspect the wiring as best you can. One fault can generate multiple spurious codes so throwing parts isn’t the strategy. There is no substitute to VIDA for running a sweep test and testing the throttle for smooth operation of the blade and sensors, without that , you have to make $500 guesses

Faulty accelerator pedal? Have you tested to verify both pots in it are reading successfully? If that's fricked it won't matter what ETM you put on.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I probably worded my post poorly. The codes I have, along with ETS light (NO CEL) are as follows:

P1017 - ECM
P1019 - no comm between throttle and ETM. Also saw Valvetronic Eccentric Shaft Sensor Power Supply...not sure what that means.
P1020 - throttle body communication
P1043 - accelerator pedal sensor fault

As to your question, I am not sure how to check the accel pedal.

Just puzzling to me that it would throw ETS light and related codes if that was not the cause.

Bad acc pedal could cause you to shoot into traffic and die. That's why it's such a big fault. No different than having a stuck throttle cable in the older style systems.

Thanks fellas for all the replies. Through a lot of Googling I was led to a possible bad engine management relay. Replaced that and started up. No fault codes this time but idles terribly. Going to try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. Maybe clean the MAF as well.
