Adjusted and locked the cams to be level with the seam of the block (with the proper above and below), and I think the crankshaft gear mark (of the several I seem to have identified, hopefully right this time) is lined up with the oil pump mark. But because I'm not going to do timing stuff on an "I think," working to pull the harmonic balancer off... oi is the nut on there tightly

Oh, and the cam marks do both point towards the middle of the top cam cover at about a 45 degree angle, I am missing the plastic piece that's used for alignment

Update: borrowed an impact driver from a family friend which made quick work of the nut. Harmonic balancer came off with some WD-40 and a couple solid hits with a rubber mallet, targeted towards the inner metal of the balancer
That all sound correct for the 1998. I hate those little marks he top of the cover , makes it look like those are the correct timing marks, when in fact if you time there, it’s $2000 of damage.

SASKIA LIVES!!!

Everything sounds wonderful, save for maybe a bit of lifter tick (could be from oil needing to get places again, maybe?)

And now I can go sleep, it's been an all-nighter... going to properly bleed coolant system later today, I assume since there's the small line that seems to be the highest point that the system kind of bleeds itself when the cap is left off?

You have done very good work

Ive never bled a P80 Volvo cooling system. I drain, add 4 liters VOlvo coolant, top off with hose, idle for 5 minutes, put cap on, drive 10 minutes, usually add another 200-300 mL water to the Death Star reservoir

Sometimes the refill can be a pain. It can burp easily and fill easily, our 00 R was it's usual PITA and took 3 drives to fully burp, so I carried coolant with me. Eventually it did.

If the car has been sitting, it may well run smoother once run a bit to get the engine fully lubed again.

Awesome work!
