I have a 2000 S40 1.9T. My normally very-competent mechanic changed out the timing belt, and ever since then, I've gotten trouble codes related to the timing (P-0035 and P-0036 crankshaft, P-0341 and P-1014 camshaft). These error codes never came up before the timing belt change. The engine seems to run and drive fine but it does have a hard time starting one out of four times, which also didn't happen before the timing belt change.
I did replace the VVT solenoid with a Volvo one but that resolved nothing.
I did buy a new camshaft position sensor but never install it because I wasn't sure where on my engine it was located (no thanks to my Haynes manual).
And I should say that my mechanic only works on Volvos and has decades of experience. I did return the car to him but after looking at it for a week, he couldn't find the problem. I plan to return it to him and ask him to recheck the timing, but I wanted to get your opinion on this issue first.

Seems a little too coincidental that the timing issue cropped up just after the timing belt change.
I'd guess that something is off a tooth.
It's a pain to get the timing covers off and I have an especially hard time seeing the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket.
I don't think it would take me a week to perform that inspection though.
He did use a cam locking tool when changing the belt, right?

I think it'll still run, but obviously not as it should.
If it's occasionally hard to start and has trouble codes, than it's not running fine IMO.
Around here, you will not pass emissions inspection with a CEL illuminated.
I'd give the mechanic another chance to make it right.

I did drop it off to my mechanic a bit ago but he couldn't find a problem. I'll do so again and ask him to recheck the timing.

That P0014 code is telling you the VVT system has been shut off due to incorrect cam flank angle, ie, the cam timing is off. It’s only a one tooth range on VVT cars. That’s cause of the poor running
