I'm not sure what you're asking.

I'm assuming that the plug in question taps into the same place that the lower one on the old tranny used to...it's just that you'll need to wire it up so that this happens....am I wrong?

Is that plug at the bottom completely sealed up or could you take the plug out of your old and insert it there and just leave the top one disconnected? I assume you're using the original ('95) TCM so you'll have to mimic what your original transmission did as closely as you can with this replacement transmission.

The replacement is COMPLETELY plugged there, it's molded into the exterior casing. I believe it uses a hall sensor, but I'm not going to be swapping cases and trying.

The plug on the 86 is different. It's two 'prongs', but the head/prong diameter is different. Both are cylindrical, but still... could solder some wire or something...?

Yes, I'm thinking you're going to have to do some wiring....and yes, probably some soldering. The post I quoted earlier ((I've since learned) was about a '96 MANUAL tranmission (with the same plug) into a car that formerly had an auto tranny so they tied into the ABS sensor on the wheel and got rid of the TCM to delete the fault codes it was causing. Your situation is different. You're putting in an auto tranny where an auto tranny was, so the sensor that measures vehicle speed needs to go back to the TCM. I'm just hoping that the new sensor in the upper location sends the same type of signal as the sensor from the lower location.

I had this same issue for my 95 850 turbo. I ordered a transmission from the wrecking yard, they said they would send me a transmission from a 94 turbo(which would be the same transmission. When I got the transmission I realized the sensors were in different spots, ran the part number found out they had sent me a 97 transmission. I thought about wiring a plug too make it fit(which would not be hard). After looking at it, they are both AC pulse sensors, but they are in different location, picking up the signal off of different sized gears, producing a different signal, which I would imagine would throw codes for "incorrect gear ratios" or slipping" or something lime that. So i decided their was no way I was gonna put it in. I called the wrecking yard, they sent me the correct one(it was their fault) and let me keep the other one as they did not want to pay shipping to get it back. Whose fault was it that you got a different transmission. Maybe you can see if they will send the correct one. Also turbo and non turbo cars have a different final drive gear ratio, so make sure the transmission you use is from a turbo car.

Trans is from a 96 850 Turbo. I was NOT expecting a problem with this swap =(... same damn tranny #s... argh.

Going to go look at the trans again in person before telling the mechanic to 'do it'.

*MIJ* - I IM'd Torque steer and read the thread... Thank you.

Hope you get it sorted. I do know that others have done this...just can't find their posts of exactly how.

My only concern is if I install it how can I access the plugs once it's installed? And I DONT want it in a limp mode either if something is up (missing VSS, etc)... =)

This guy is selling a '97 transmission and claims that it will fit earlier 850's with minor wiring change. You might PM him as to what exactly is the wiring change he speaks of: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.ph ... opic=86775
