The rear retainers come out easy. While at the pull-a-part I cut the old headliner away and tried to pry one out. After looking at it, the second one I turned 1/4 turn and it fell out in my hand.

OK, I did the trial and error on this one, so hope it helps someone else in the future.

Dave, you might like to add this small piece of info to the repair data base!!

What is the best way to extract the headliner from an 850 sedan after you remove the trim pieces ? Does it just come out through the rear door? Or do you remove the back seat and pull it out through the trunk ? Who sells the best material kits for replacement? Thanks !

Seems like the trunk is the way to go- you'll have to bend it to some degree to get it out that way too- be careful not to "crease" the new one you're putting in.

Yeah it ended up coming out the passenger side front door. Laid all the seat-backs down as far as they'd go and maneuvered it out that way. Not bad. But the sunroof trim ring cracked and now I need to replace it. Parts.com has the sunroof moulding (p/n 9193482 ) for about $45. That's the best price I've found. But it doesn't have that velvet texture on it anymore, it's just tan plastic.

Sorry guys for the delay reply, I have done this before to change the headliner once, the back clip is just need to turn 90 degrees and it fall off, and you need to exit if in front pasanger door to remove it out from the car. hope this helps.
