As I said "most car stereos" thanks for the correction about the Volvo specifics.

The photo is for a 850 adapter. It plugs into the FACTORY wiring and provides two ISO outouts for whatever stereo you are buying.

Below is a photo of how it can be used in an 95 850 wagon: Clear enough??

To me, sure.
To those that may not install stereos very often, why complicate the issue?
For the average shade tree installer, there's no need to dig that deep.
Get a wiring adapter, make your connections and away you go.

If the deck you're installing happens to meet the ISO standard, more the better.
The adapter in your image truly does make it a plug and play operation. Great!
But many don't. In that case, a pig tail style adapter is the way to go.

I just don't want to discourage anyone from tackling their own installation,
so bringing up impedance in a situation where the problem is already solved
simply seems kinda superfluous to me. Let's not scare anyone off!

Your comment about the impedance of Volvo speakers is duly noted and I've certainly learned something from our discussion today. Much obliged!!

All aftermarket stereos I have run into have ISO connectors, however the connector I photographed can be cut and outputs sourced from the bare wires. Nothing complicated, all you need is a meter and certainly not beyond the scope of the average shadetree mechanic.

Providing the photo of the right product produces less confusion and gives the novice an idea of what to buy if they are lucky enough to buy an aftermarket stereo with ISO input.
