I accessed the web address you provided regarding the leaking coolant. That was on a 95 volvo and I understand that in 2002 everything under the hood was changed around.
Would you have any info on this?

Turns out you're right. They made it very easy to get to on the 850/-70 series, but it is impossibly hard in an S40 like it was in the old 240 series.
It's almost certain that the heater core is leaking since you're getting coolant inside the car. You'll have to remove the whole dash to replace the core. Unfortunately, we don't have many write-ups for the S40 cars, but here's the best link I found describing it:
