No need to do it like that. Jack up the car from the middle on a part of the sub-frame, and then slip a jack stand under each side and let it down.

I roll mine up under it and jack right before the cat converter there.

Slide your jack stands under the rails on each side under the doors towards the front of the car.

I use a large 31/2 ton floor jack under frame and 4 21/2 ton jack stands. I got the heavy duty black rubber wheel chocks from HF. Works real well. I have left my vehicle on 4in thick concrete reinforced driveway on jack stands for over 2 weeks. No problem. I had to complete all over 10 year parts, starting with the fuel filter. Parts didn't fail, just on the recommended 10 yr replacement list. Done now. Power flushed cooling system and brake system.

How does one go about lifting the rear end (both wheels simultaneously) of a 2004 XC90? Where is the central lift point? Please include all lift points if more than one.

I'd like to follow up on the original poster's question. I plan to replace my front and rear shocks and springs, but I'm using an automotive lift which lifts the car from four points at once. The lift points I use are suspension components (or near them) and may need to be removed during the job. What other points could I use with an automotive lift during this work?

The attached pictures show the points I use. Don't worry, for the front point, I now center the pad on the half-circle raised area farther back from what's shown in the picture.
