Is cutting the key something that a locksmith can do or do I have to take it to the dealer for that?

We can cut any kind of key you need. Of course you have to provide proof of ownership,

We stock all keys and can cut them in house the same day. For the switchblade type key it sells for $54.86.

Thanks to the OP for this repair, I have to tell many a customer there is no way to fix it unless you buy a new head. I've sent some people over to the watch repair guy thinking if anyone could fix it he could and they don't come back. Just another example why this page is awesome.

FYI, I did the JbWeld fix and the JBWeld broke apart after a few weeks. This is not a simple fix---though the fix instructions are well done.

NIko, my JB Weld also came loose after a few years. I used super glue to repair it and so far so good. The key is still working very well though and it's been a few years.

I just brought some keys in to the local locksmith and he took 30 minutes to tell me that I need the key code for the keys I want to have cut. This is easy enough to do by bringing Proof of Ownership into my Volvo dealer.

I provided the blanks and they were about to charge me $42 per key cut but couldn't do it on the day.

Can you provide the '99 or 2000 model V70 keys cut with transponder and what price does this come to?

I'm getting ready to try this. Will all of the internals Need to be transfered? Like the transponder? Or can I take my broken key and just put it into the new housing?

The key blade itself and the transponder (glass tube) needs to be put into the new unit. That's all you'll need from your old key.

To be clear, I am assuming you have a complete "Donor" key to use. If all you have is the housing, then you'll need the spring and a new button/locking clip unit. The old button/locking clip unit is probably broken. Take a close look at the pictures in the walkthrough and it should be clear. If not, I'll be glad to clarify.

BTW, it's been years and my repaired key is working just fine.

I like tinkering with stuff and willing to do it on my own.. but if someone will do it for $25 more than the DIY solution, I'm all for that!
