It won't break apart; seizing up is a possibility, yes. How bad is the noise? If it's not knocking with every revolution of the wheel and making a really loud, constant droning yet, you can drive it back and forth to work or wherever - just don't go on any long trips with it. Mine only started making terrible noises once it started to heat up after 20 miles of driving, but I didn't have a choice as this is my only car.

Yes, use the FAG one - they make the bearings for the OEM part, but it is about $50 cheaper.

I think FAG is the best you can do (and is very good!) for this part, you can buy it with confidence. If it is indeed the same one Volvo sells, there is your answer. I don't know about SKF.

The Volvo hub bearing is only $140 at tascaparts.com but they will hit you with a heavy shipping charge. Oh you are in Australia not sure if you order from US suppliers, never mind.

When you take apart the hub, the axle may be stuck in the hub, there is a metal sealant applied at the factory. If you have a throwaway axle nut you can put that just on the end of the threads then pound it out to break it loose. And when you put the whole thing back together, don't use a sealer or thread locker on the splines, use anti-seize instead.

jblackburn: I couldn't find anybody that deal with the FAG bearings in Australia and when I try to ring their importers and got directed to their automotive section, no one was answering the phone, and I found one store that keeps them called Repco, it's branded using their own name, ie. Repco brand, when I asked the guy who makes them, he said it's made by SKF, not sure how much credibility that it's really made by SKF though... so I think my only option is the internet and 2-4 weeks or waiting time.... but it's not making that much noise at all right now, only when cold, and when turning, and I only do 10km short trips most of the time... so hopefully it's ok...

erikv11: the one at tascaparts.com doesn't specify what brands their hub is? So when I put everything back together, I use anti-seize on the spline only, but do I use thread locker on the axle nut?

Also any safety issues if I reuse all the bolts? As I've found a seller selling Volvo hubs, but not the bolts, and I can't find the bolts locally and couldn't be bothered ordering them separately from different suppliers as they want to charge me $30+ postage just for the 4 bolts...

Tasca's is going to be the OEM Volvo part, but I don't know if they ship out of the country.

It may just be much easier for you in the long run to go with the SKF bearing if you can get it for a good price over there. Looking at shipping and everything else, you may end up paying upwards of $200 USD before you end up with a part in a few weeks. That's just ridiculous to me.

If you do end up buying the part from over here somewhere, throw in the bolts with your order. I began to round one of them off hammering on the wrench trying to get the stupid thing loose. Otherwise, you can probably re-use them without a problem; just make sure they're on nice & tight.

hi jblackburn, thanks for the help again, the ones from Repco if they're really from SKF, are they any good? They want about USD$225 for it without bolts and nuts, and it will cost more than the original unit shipped from US, that's why I'm not too keen on them...

but at the moment I'm having trouble looking for sellers that sell them on ebay, one of the seller that had an original one for US$165 shipped, but haven't replied my message since Monday, I was asking if he could source the nuts and bolts

and I was a bit pee off by one of the representative of FCP from ebay last week when I asked him for prices as I wanted to buy everything together with the tune up kit and all the filters, then he wanted to know my full name, full address, email and telephone number before he would give me a quote... I asked him why do they do business so strangely and I haven't received a reply since...

so I'm still looking for a seller that would answer my question and reply my emails as I've got plenty of parts that I'll be ordering and I want a seller I could trust, hope I wasn't asking too much, but I guess most of them won't be bothered shipping it across the world...

but I'm in no rush as I've ordered one of those cv boot repair kit from UK just to give it a try since it's only $15 a side, I thought I'll have nothing to lose, and I need to do the rotors at the same time too, so may as well, rotors would arrive next week...

if everything arrives first I'll just have to source the SKF one here but only if you guys think it's reliable?

SKF bearings have an excellent reputation. Volvo was founded by SKF, and operated as an SKF subsidiary from 1927 until 1935. The circle in the Volvo emblem is derived from the picture of a bearing, and the name Volvo itself is from the Latin "Ab Volvo", or "I roll".
More information than you wanted, no doubt, but SKF and FAG are my two bearings of choice.

Dont understand how complicated it is to pack a box, take it to the post office, fill a customs form and voila..
I ship parts every week at least, worldwide.. Anything than fits on a priority flat rate is gravy, and fairly quick..

hi elchopperfreak, I don't know why either I have a 100% feedback on ebay and i buy lots of things but the sellers just doesn't seem to be interested...

anyway I've just received the Volvo original boxed, packed, whole set with nuts and bolts just before Easter which is good, too bad I still have to wait for the rotors and cv boot before I'll want to work on it, so I guess I won't get it started until after Easter...

anyway if anybody's interested, the bearing I received is marked as being made by "FAG" "Germany"... so I assume the original Volvo unit is made by FAG....
