Can a leaking oil cap do all that?

I find the seal doesn't matter as much as the make of the oil cap. DO NOT BUY MOTORAD oil cap or radiator cap!

I have the Volvo oil cap, and use cheap (Rein? Elring?) oil cap gaskets, and change the gaskets at least once a year
'00 S70, '04 S60 and the never ending quest for Stage Zero

I'm on my OEM cap and gasket from Nov 1998 and my cover is dry.
