I not only have lost use of my sunroof it has started rattling very badly. Can I safely try these above repairs and if one works not cause any more damage to my sunroof?

I have purchased a siren for my 2001 V70 T5 and am going to attempt to install in the car within a couple of weeks. The information from Volvo is that I will have to reprogram to car via dealer or VADIS/VIDA. Can I reprogram via the later (this site)?

If you replace the siren there is no reprogramming. If you disconnect battery and it is disconnected for a while then the car will be in transport mode and the locks, alarm, and some lighting will not work until you cycle the locks with remote.

As above, no need to reprogram. However, someone mentioned that Vida will show an error code if the new alarm is not the one that originally came with the car. It is just a code stored, the car will work without issues.

Agree with orangex and jimmy57, no reprogram necessary. I did this repair a few years ago on my 2001 V70 T5. I believe there are two ways of accessing the alarm, by removing the bumper or by going in thru the passenger side wheel well. I was reluctant to go via the bumper, so I replaced via the wheel well. With patience you can get it done. The access is cramped for removing screws. Another hint if you go thru the wheel well, have extra rivets on hand to reattach the wheel well liner to the fender. You will need a rivet gun. Rivets are cheap at the Volvo dealer. Make sure the battery is disconnected before starting the repair.

I applaud you for replacing the alarm vs just pulling the fuse. Good luck.

As above, when I'm at the breakers, if a car is missing the roght headlight unit, the siren sits just behind: two 10mm bolts to loosen upand the electrical connector to undo and the siren slides out of it's bracket. Very easy to remove but again the bumper and the headlight must be removed first.

If going through the wheel well, a few aluminum rivets at the front must be drilled (I didn't put them back, the plastic sits fine without them), then a small metal plate with two plastic nuts, then the plastic cover is tossed (it still has 1 or 2 clips on the fender). To remove the siren most people will cut the securing bolt head which is tricky. Try first locate the bolt inside the engine bay: there is a welded nut but with a pliers you may be able to rotate the bolt and unscrew it a little bit, then from inside the fender you may be able to grab the head and unscrew the remaining. Better replace this bolt with a regular hex head one.
