s70 readiness?
s70 readiness?
I was thinking about the memory dump but with most cars, when I have the scanner hooked up, I see at least one of the monitors set on a simple 20 mile drive. Then, if there were a voltage problem, I'd lose the monitor or monitors I just set when I next started the car. In my case, I've never seen any of the monitors set even while watching on extended drives. This leads me to believe its something else causing the problem. I'll have to check loop status. Also, in the TSB regarding this problem, there is something about a flywheel position detection that it has to complete before it runs any monitors. Maybe it's not completing this??

The EPA has a list of states with OBD emissions testing. http://www.epa.gov/obd/status.htmwallymn wrote:It has been 20 years since I lived in a state with emission testing, Sorry to ask a stupid question.... Is it now practice to just read the ODBII port? NO tail pipe testing?
In Illinois, where I live, we have had to pass emissions via OBD for about 10 years now and haven't see tailpipe testing since then. I also remember them testing the gas cap as well for leaks.

OK.
Verify time response of O2 sensors. Warmed up, monitor O2's and create vac leak by pulling the purge hose off the front of intake while watching and counting the time the sensors go below 0.2V
Leave the leak for at least 1 minute for LTFT to go a few increments rich. Now plug the hose back on and do the same monitor/count thing to see how long to go over 0.75V
Should be close to a tie for the two sensors to do their changes and the time should not exceed 4 seconds MAX. I don't see more than 2 seconds usually. If you know your scanner has a time delay of X seconds, add X sec to the time.
You would think it would set O2 sensor codes if it isn't happy enough with them to approve monitors but not so for M4.3 and M4.4. Bosch has a bit of a history with their readiness monitors on several makes they supply eng mgmt to.

Hi, I had yet another question about the drive cycle I'd like to ask everyone. I have a clean stretch of road where I can run the cycle but it takes about 6 minutes of stop-and-go driving to get to it. How can anyone do the cycle from a cold start? Most people can't just fly out of their driveways or apartment complexes doing over 45mph and 1800-2000 rpm steady. They also can't park on the side of a highway and let their cars do a full cool down. Is there some leniency in the drive cycle programming to allow you to get to a suitable driving location? Just curious about what others did who had success. Thanks for all the help!
Ok, just as an update. I got thru PA state inspection! However, none of the five monitors were set to "ready". PA's emission software allows these vehicles to pass regardless of the monitor status. Just wanted to let people know because this is a pain that you don't have to go thru. I hear there are other states that are the same as PA as far as this goes. My monitors still haven't set by the way:)

Thanks for the update Amy! As mentioned earlier I believe most States do not look at the Ready Status of these cars. Those who have had a few years under their belt as Smog/Emission Techs should know this as I found out earlier this year when I called various shops in CA before my Test.Amys 940 wrote:Ok, just as an update.
