Thank you SO much for this information. I never would have guessed it was a feature! I thought it was a problem! I just bought my 2002 V70 last night (our other Volvo is an 88 240DL - verrrrry different), and these forums have already soothed my nerves twice. I really appreciate it.

You probably don't need this function in hot, dry SoCal. You don't get too much condensation in the evap area and it dries quickly. Southeast and Gulf States need this pretty bad.

My 1999 evaporator did rot out after about 8 years in semi humid NY driving.

I have a 2001 V70 and I cannot get the fan to turn off. I noticed lately a couple of times the temp showed 109 degrees when it was actually only 70-80 degrees, but then it went back to normal, and everything worked fine but yesterday the fan just will not shut off. I had to remove the climate control fuse to get it to turn off. It had been running for hours in front of my house. I don't know if I need to replace the bumper sensor, the driver's or passenger sensor, or the sensor in the engine compartment, and I cant find anything to definitively tell me. Can someone help please? Thanks.

Oh thank god I'm not alone on this just had the neighbours friend bang my back door to tell me the car was making a noise.. This seems to be what was going on (I hope).
