The ETM I replaced yesterday had all the codes for ETM replacement but only affected cold starting and restarting once warm. Once the engine ran for 5-10 minutes the symptoms were gone and the car drove fine. There was also what sounded like an intermittent stutter or miss. These are not typical ETM failure symptoms.
I still vote for reading codes. The symptoms I describe could be an infinite number of different things and this forum is primarily about helping people diagnose their cars ACCURATELY to avoid unnecessary expense. If anyone had a faulty ETM and went to a dealer they would spend up to $900 including fitting. In other countries such as Australia the figure is closer to $1,400 (ETMs sell for $1,100 AUD)
By correctly diagnosing the problem and DIYing the installation most folks save between $200 and $900 depending on the country.
