2000 volvo s70 ETS Light Intermittent - P0573 code

Post by stargate476 »

So i know about the etm issues with these cars but there is no performance issues with it just the light and i got a yellow tag unit in there, not that thats a guarantee, but when i scan the codes, i get a P0573 - Brake Switch A Circuit High.. Could that be causing the ets light to come on and off? If so would this be the likely part needing replaced? Volvo Brake Light Switch - Genuine Volvo 9128577 ?

EDIT: By more googling, some volvo forums say code could be the brake pedal position sensor too and that it could trigger ETS light as well, mostly just looking for second/third opinions before i go spending money. I did just clear codes to see if it returns, ets light went off when i cleared codes, guess we will see if it comes back on.

Can't see how the 2 issues are related. I would expect the brake code to show on the brake system warning light. If that is not then it could be an old stored code. I would try re-setting it and see if it returns.

If the ETS light is coming on and off it could be a sign of things to come with a worn ETS. Even an old repaired unit which I understand still uses the carbon position sensors, will also fail depending how old it is. It may well run fine for now but like I said could be the warning of things to come.

just to update, after i cleared codes ETS light and code was gone, about 40-50 miles of driving ETS came back on, no brake lights tho on dash came on, checked codes sure enough same code was back. came back simultaneously. THink i will try to replace the pedal position sensor for brakes and see if that works

P0573 tracks to ECM-9400, which is a brake pedal sensor signal too high reading, either intermittent or permanent.

I think this uses the same sensor, check the resistance per this chart
