In my latest install into just acquired 98 C70, I fashioned a 'pilot bolt' by grinding the tip of the 10 mm bolt to aid in starting the bolt into the block. About 3mm of the tip was ground so that it became cylindrical unthreaded tip that is smaller than the fastener diameter. It helped a lot.
I will start throwing in one of these in the refurbed lines I'm making to help a bit in the installation.

Nice tip. Would bolt that is just a few mm shorter achieve the same purpose?
