Quick math: 45K miles/365 days (assuming he works 365 days a week) = 123 miles a day, on average.
Actually this is not unheard of, if you live some 50-60 miles from your workplace, it is possible to accumulate that much mileage, assuming that you are faithful to your car and don't dump it at 100K miles.
PS: and assuming your odometer gear does not break before that LOL!

You know what I've always heard... You get one or two that come off the line that will run forever, the rest are average, then you get those one or two that are nothing but lemons before you ever even get them off the car carrier. 
Maybe he was just one of the lucky ones, however, if it was ALL highway driving which I am assuming it was it is nowhere near as hard on a car as "Stop N' Go" driving.

The engine in my 94 na has never been cracked open and it's getting close to 280k. Gives me hope!
1994 850 na green 187k on body, 275k on motor(backwards?), unrestricted airbox, 960 TB, persus wheels, Lowered, IPD poly upper and trans mounts.
