Evaps are all the same throughout the years
Buy a Behr (OEM supplier) without the blue box, save $$$

"Quick connect and slow disconnect" heard someone refer to them as that, had to laugh (it's true!)

I used that for the o-rings on my '99. It worked perfectly, and even included an o-ring for the orifice tube and junction. One year later, no leaks and works great. This is much easier and cheaper than having to hunt through the dealer catalogs to find each individual o-ring.

Thanks guys I'm also going to replace the fan as well, mine has issues when it is cold and makes funny noises. Found some on eBay for $45. Seems like a good time to do it...

I did see that writeup, it is excellent, I even printed it out some years ago.

WOW!...so....it looks as if when this job is being done, one can fix thier rattling dashboard screws too right? I can see the edge of the window in the pics after he yanked the dash out. is this true? if so, that's all the reason I need to go in there and replace the Evap. my rattling dash is nerve racking.

I did one in 100° heat in Albuquerque a couple of years ago and vowed that I would never do another unless the car is loosing more than a can of freon every 60 days.

It took me 11 hours and 30 minutes. Do be prepared to fix dash tabs. If I were going to fix dash tabs I would likely do the evaporator while at it.

I replaced the evap and heater core on my wife's '99 XC and am gearing up to do the same repair(s) on my newly acquired '96 855 Turbo. Not a job for the impatient or inexperienced technician.

From my experience, if you do tackle this job, bag-and-tag EVERY nut, bolt, screw, etc., from the first one you remove to the last one. Especially note if you are missing any fasteners from a group, e.g. glove box insert. This task is time consuming, BUT, it will save you time and lots of frustration when you go to re-assemble your brick. Not to mention that it keeps your workspace tidy. Hope this helps.
