So I'm looking to find a shop manual that has complete wiring, instrumentation, and engine control derscriptions for my V70. I'd like to get a complete understanding of how this motor operates, and then try and get the software to get in the ECU and tune the VVT for performance, I'm thinking you need some special software to do this. I used to work in the gas turbine control industry and we could download new tuned up software to get more performance from the turbines. I assume you can do the same with the v70 by tuning the turbo and valves for performance and get some real time data from the instrumentation.
So anyone ever do that?
Shop Manual, and reprogramming software. Can it be done?

Most of the tuners who reverse engineer the software guard their work product as that’s the hard part. Be aware that Volvo pins ECU to the VIN so you can brick your car if you aren’t careful

Yes, there is a small commercial industry set up around ECU tuning.
e.g. https://www.ipdusa.com/products/16563/W ... IPD-126094 or https://hiltontuning.com/ or a handful of others.
As abscate suggested, for your 06 V70 the software/hardware tricks are not freely available though obviously several programmers have figured out how and what to read and write.

Can't help you with "tuning" the ECU, that's what the "D5T5.com" and other firms in the Former Soviet Socialist Republics sell. Tread carefully, as "Volvo Turbo" is an oxymoron, and if you wanted high performance, buying a Volvo was your first error.
But here are good wiring diagrams, including those for 2006 Volvos:

2001 v70 2.4T: The most expensive $1500 car I ever bought ("Volvo Turbo" - what an oxymoron!) (sold)
2004 v70: Far less fatally-flawed v70 - It served well (sold)
2010 v50: Smaller, slightly sportier wagon. Its got a spoiler, so I upgraded with sway bars!
