Yes, that is exactly what came to mind. The wagon I recently brought home had me baffled. After swapping almost everything that made sense, I swapped both O2 sensors, and that was it.

Also, the Sedan wasn't throwing any codes, but after all I had replaced, I knew something was not quite right. I replaced only the front O2 and it is a whole new car.

It makes sense for you if both engines had the same symptom.

Could be rear sensor, but I changed the front one recently.

Did you check the ECT sensor?

Did you check the duct that the MAF connects to? The plastic gets brittle over time and can crack causing a vacuum leak. Mine actually broke completely off right where it connects to the turbo when I went to check my air filter.

New duct with the engine swap, but thanks for suggesting it. And, indeed, the plastic was badly cracked right where it connects to the throttle body. I am dealing with a non-turbo as well.

Have you considered the possibility of it being a drivetrain and not a engine performance issue? Also, does the problem only occur when you are stepping on the brake? If so, you might want to look into the power brake booster and its associated vacuum lines.

Hadn't considered drivetrain issues -- such as, for example? Haven't looked at brake booster.

Transmission issues can cause hesitation upon acceleration, but I would start with the brake booster.
