Problem is a vacuum leak, just had to replace my intake manifold gasket due to questionable installation done when the PVC system was replaced. When it first began to fail there was an "escaping air" sound on acceleration, soon engine began running rough with a very feral miss at idle. As the leak progressed the sound became more and more prominent until I had to fix it. Got it repaired and all is well in the Universe again.

I think I dated a feral miss in college, but I'm not sure what it is in a Volvo engine .
