Your heat shield needs to be bent back, it's dragging on the rotor.

Could be...but it would also rub in reverse and will not stop when brake is applied. :?

Could be a sticky caliper or bad brake disc.

We have a winner--it was a slight divot on the plate. maybe a misplaced hammer blow?

Very common. Any time you use a pickle fork to get the ball joint off of the steering knuckle it will inevitably bend the dust shield behind the rotor. Getting the dust cover flattened back out is now part of my SOP when I change out a control arm.
