Thanks for the diagram and part number.
According to the diagram the control valve should be replaced too, is there a p/n? Whats the easiest way to remove the torx screws on the timing belt cover? They are tighter than I thought and I don't want to strip them, just more elbow grease perhaps? Will I need a torque wrench?
Found a link https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=21162 that may help others w/ the vvt solenoid (just a different error code).
2000 S70 CEL P1670 P1671 Failed smog test functional
My immediate goal is to pass smog test in California. Will I be able to pass smog with the check engine light gone, but there's still two codes in the system? One is p1671 fault and the other is a p1671 pending. Once that's done I can spend more time on the other codes.
Edit: Thinking about it logically, the answer would be no because the camshaft effects emissions...

From VIDA: "Tighten the control valve crosswise [so that would be in an x-pattern] Tighten to 10 Nm (7.4 ft-lbs)". The cover's torque is 8Nm (6 ft-lbs).fars70 wrote:What is the torque spec and pattern; for the 'camshaft reset valve' and the 'part' that was connected to the throttle body gasket. I assume the timing belt cover, doesn't have a torque spec?
Please and thanks.

Thanks VCA. Hope the torque doesn't matter if it's the front or top timing belt cover.VCA wrote:From VIDA: "Tighten the control valve crosswise [so that would be in an x-pattern] Tighten to 10 Nm (7.4 ft-lbs)". The cover's torque is 8Nm (6 ft-lbs).
I'm pretty sure my immobilizer issue (p1670) is gone, it came back after I tried the lock/ un-lock six times method. So when the code returned, I opened up the steering column and sprayed Ideal brand electrical contact cleaner and that seemed to have resolved it. Did not put any dielectric on pins.
Regarding the p1671 (2 codes remain, one fault and pending). What does it matter if it's low/ high signal if it's being replaced? And I think it could be a timing issue, I'm going to try and see if I can check the timing. Would this be a service most mechanics are willing to do (a timing check)? I thought smog test centers had to do this as part of the smog test, but I could be wrong.
And are there any complaints with Fel-Pro throttle body gaskets? https://www.amazon.com/Fel-Pro-61370-Thr ... uctDetails
For P1671: Cleaned the cvvt solenoid with engine degreaser. Didn't really see sludge except for a little bit in the outer channels (the center hole where the new wire mesh hole is, was clean). Degreaser didn't really take of the oil, I did let it soak for 15 mins per the instructions first before rinsing it off. Will try checking the ohm next. Never really used a multimeter; do I test the ohm by just placing a needle on each pin?
P1670 came back again, so I'll try cleaning the immobolizer again this time I'll use a toothbrush.

Great to hear! You'll pass now...after the readiness codes are set (give it 100-200 miles for monitors to be all set)
