ah, we're talking about ticking that doesn't go away, not just at startup. my mistake.
incidentally, am i right about the lighter oils for startup ticks? ie, if i were ticking with a 10W, might i not tick with a 5W?

Many people remedy the ticking by going to heavier weights, I think you're saying it backwards? So, if it ticks with 10w, the ticking will be worse with 5w.
