This is reminding me of the thread on the high and low speed control bus info and the fact that a heat soak can make some of the control units go bad. I think jimmy57 posted on this recently.

I think the 2002 uses this system but I'm not sure it wouldn't take out a bunch of other stuff too.

Can you rig a voltmeter onto the fan circuit at various places to see if you can isolate where you are losing voltage? If the LEDs are out on the face you can start at the AC relay by jumping it at the next "hot failure"

At least you can depend on AL weather to reproduce the failure!!
