98 V70 R Smoking while idling

My recently purchased V70 was doing the same thing. Fine when it started, but after warming up it smoked REALLY badly at takeoff and idle. I poured a half a bottle of Seafoam into a quarter-tank of gas and it stopped smoking by the time the tank was empty. Also put about a third of a bottle of Seafoam into the oil and drove it about 100 miles before changing it, just for good measure. Been almost two months now and has not smoked since. I suspect the issue was valve or valve-stem related.
