2005 S60 T5 shut off while idling
I recently replaced the PEM and FPS after buying the car in non running condition. All has been well up until today. I was heading in to get an emissions test done for my registration. I stopped off to get something to eat beforehand and was sitting in the car idling eating breakfast and it sounds like its misfiring then eventually died. I had codes for the engine coolant temp sensor too low, fuel pressure low and fuel pressure sensor performance. The previous owner had replaced the fuel pump prior to me buying the car along with the fuel filter. I know I have been having issues with the coolant temp sensor but it usually starts acting normal after a while. The car started back up and ran fine about 15 miles back to my house. Fuel pressure on the way home was around 300kpa the whole way. I left it idling in the driveway and got my vida/dice laptop and fuel pressure was at 400kpa. No other issues or codes popped up on the way home. Any ideas as to what would cause it to do that? The replacement PEM was used but in good shape on the outside anyway. I was idling in my driveway for a good half an hour with no issues. Only other issue I am having is with the fuel level. One side reads 32 liters and the other side reads 9 but the gauge will only go just past half a tank and sometimes goes dead and I do get errors saying that there is a ground on the line.

Hum I'll theorize... Intermittent poor connection in the charging system. As you was sitting there, it was running off battery power. The battery voltage dropped and created the false codes. As you drove home the poor connection cut back in and the battery charged back up.
It could be a Intermittent connection(s) in the CAN bus.

Fresh off the kill in the XC90 forum
If this a 4WD Car it is easy to kinkfuel lines when servicing the fuel pump , which can drive you crazy with intermittent fuel delivery and drive ability problems.
Was the fuel pump recently serviced?

Even if the PEM looks fine, it may be damaged inside and cause a short. I'd try to crack it open without breaking too many of those plastic tabs (warm it up a little so they get less brittle), and clean it well inside along with a close check.

The fuel gauge sender unit is notoriously bad on these cars.
Since the fuel pump was replaced (common mistake by low key mechanics who are not aware that the Volvo pumps are much more solid that in other cars), I'd keep an eye on it especially if it was some aftermarket part.
Finally, corroded DEM (google) on AWD models can cause the engine to stall but would usually throw some messages/lights

Sorry guys I havent been getting notifications even though I set it up for some reason. some answers below.
1. Fuel pump was replaced by previous owner. Is it possible to reverse the fuel lines when installing a new pump?
2. I do notice that when I am at idle and have the heat on the blower motor drops in RPM when I let off the gas. VIDA does show 14.4vdc when idling. When I get back on the gas the blower motor speeds up.
3. I drove the car to work today with no issues. 24 miles in stop and go traffic. Takes about an hour.
4. Not really and answer but the heat takes a very long time to get hot. I suspect a sticky thermostat.
5. it is an AWD car. Not sure what you mean by easy to link fuel lines
6. I checked using VIDA and found that the fuel sender reading for one side of the tank was 32L and the other side was 9L. Does that sound right for a tank thats almost full?

I drove it home the other day and it started to hesitate and lose power. I plugged in my OBD II scanner and looked at the fuel pressure. At idle it was staying around 300kpa(43psi). I believe it is supposed to be 400kpa(58psi). As I would drive it would dip as low as 30kpa(4.3psi). Also getting P0089 and P0087 so I know I have a fuel regulation problem. The fuel pressure sensor is consistanty reading 100kpa lower than what the ECM is calling for. Below are pics from VIDA. Im still trying to learn VIDA. I only have about 3 hours on it. So really Im guessing that there are only a few parts that could cause this. The fuel pump, which was replaced by previous owner but never ran until I bough the car. Fuel pressure sensor, which was replaced by me with a bosch unit. Fuel filter, also replaced by previous owner and also never ran until I got the car and the PEM, which I replaced with a used one. The other thing Im not sure of is weather or not the used PEM I installed is the correct one. It was out of a 2005 T5 I believe.

Turned the car off and tried again. Was running ruff and pressure didnt really do much.

I would check the fuel filter. One tank of dirty fuel is enough to clog a filter. If the dirty fuel does not get purged or filtered, a new fuel filter will clog up for the same reason the old one did.
